The competition between Boeing Co. and Airbus generates a lot of headlines in the daily press, especially when it can be framed as a battle between the U.S. and Europe. But an often-overlooked point is that many suppliers on both sides of the Atlantic are selling to both companies —and reaping the benefits of a third consecutive year of strong orders for commercial aircraft. That's the case with Woodward Governor Co., an industrial supplier that has major roles on engines that will fly on the industry's two new signature aircraft. Woodward is providing the fuel system for the GEnx, one of two engines offered on Boeing's 787, and is supplying fuel system components for the GP7200, one of two engine choices on Airbus's A380. The Fort Collins, Colo.-based company also is supplying the fuel system for the PW600-series engines used on very light jets such as Cessna Aircraft Co.'s Citation Mustang.
