Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is exploring the launch of a new regional jet, as well as long-term plans to upgrade the aerospace and defense company's business jets. Starting a regional jet program would represent an important shift for IAI that could strengthen its commercial aircraft business. Potentially, it would let the company also reclaim the title of aircraft prime contractor. While IAI still builds aircraft, it lost the title after selling its product line to Gulfstream, for which it now builds the G150 (formerly the Astra) and the G200 (formerly the Galaxy). IAI is still exploring options, and has begun shopping for partners, says IAI Chairman Yair Shamir.
