French authorities' attitude toward low-fare carriers remains largely negative in an indication that the dinosaur flag carrier ideology is still flourishing. The time has come to adopt modern-day thinking. Of course, Air France is no longer a state-owned airline. In the last 10 years, it gradually implemented an aggressive growth strategy, restored profitability, market confidence and, after acquiring KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, became a global leader. Its hub-and-spoke route system is well balanced, traffic growth is robust, earnings are strong despite high fuel prices and other economic un- certainties.
