Emirates and International Lease Financing Corp.—two of the aircraft industry's biggest buyers—are giving a strong endorsement to Boeing's design strategy through orders. Emirates ordered 10 747-8 freighters and 45 General Electric GEnx engines in a deal valued at $3.3 billion, with deliveries slated to begin in 2010. Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum called the -8 "an adaptable aircraft" that will help Emirates build Dubai as a cargo hub. Emirates recently ordered eight 777 freighters as well, but canceled its two A380F orders, switching them to passenger aircraft.
