摘要

Higher fares and packed airplanes are doing for the biggest U.S. airlines what they always do—putting them squarely in the black. American Airlines and Continental Airlines, two giants that aren't in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and haven't been during the past few years, report solid profits for the second quarter. The third carrier in this category, Southwest Airlines, set records. As the rest report financial results this week and during the first part of August, only Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines, both burdened by Chapter 11 reorganization costs, seem likely to lag.
