Labor disputes between flight attendant unions at Northwest Airlines and Comair are coming to a head. The airlines have bankruptcy courts on their side, but flight attendants are outraged at the depth of cutbacks. While negotiations may continue, strikes cannot be ruled out. In each case, federal bankruptcy court judges in New York State have allowed the two airlines to reject current contracts and impose new labor agreements. Northwest has canceled its contract with the flight attendants and imposed new terms. Comair has the authority to do so, but has not yet exercised it.
