OnAir is moving forward with deployment of inflight phone service and high-speed broadband data offerings that it hopes will become the industry standard. Early next year, OnAir—the successor to Tenzing led by Airbus and SITA— will begin onboard GSM-standard sat-phone revenue trials on short-haul European routes with new Air France, BMI and TAP Air Portugal aircraft—the first line-fit offering in the airline industry. The service, to be offered on Airbus narrow-body aircraft, will utilize Inmarsat's SwiftBroadband satellite network, a low- profile EMS Arinc 781 L-band antenna and a lightweight, low-power Thales TopFlight Arinc 781 satcom unit unveiled at the Farnborough air show.
