摘要

Do you feel that the alternative way NASA contracts and partners with commercial companies will at some point replace the need for SLS-Orion?The answer is yes, it should, but the question is when? There is going to be a transition time. We need a government backbone. Right now, SLS-Orion is our best opportunity to get to deep space as fast as possible. When you look down the road and see things like [SpaceX's] Big Falcon Rocket or [Blue Origin's] New Armstrong-large rockets that can take heavy payloads to deep space-this could give us options we don't currently have. Will that replace SLS and Orion? I don't know, but if they have the ability to innovate and give us more access and drive down costs, that is something everybody should be in favor of. In the future, as more commercial companies are doing more things with heavier payloads in deeper space, we need to start thinking about how we do things differently. If and when that time comes, we can buy assets, rather than purchasing, owning and operating rockets.
