Aerospace companies are making progress toward minimizing the negative environmental impact of difficult-to-recycle composite materials used in aircraft manufacturing.In addition to a recent announcement from Boeing that it has partnered with a UK company to recycle excess composite materials from its factories into automotive equipment, a French consortium is working to develop biosourced composites from long bamboo fibers to replace polymer-based materials used to make aircraft cabin interiors.On Dec. 5, Boeing announced a partnership with UK-based ELG Carbon Fibre Ltd. to recycle excess composite materials from 11 aircraft manufacturing sites into electronic accessories and automotive equipment. Three additional sites in Canada, China and Malaysia will possibly be included later.
