The Canadian defense sector is "poised for growth," with annual military spending expected to increase by 70% over the coming decade. Christyn Cianfarani, president and CEO of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, says not only will domestic supply trend higher but so will the export market, "where 60% of our revenues come from. We think that our sector is poised for growth over the next few years," she tells Aviation Week.On June 7, Defense Minister Har-jit Sajjan released his long-term national defense policy, called "Strong, Secure, Engaged," which would bolster the Canadian Armed Forces by raising annual military spending to C$32.7 billion ($25.5 billion) by fiscal 2026-27, up from $18.9 billion currently. The spending hike would fund a slew of new military purchases, including 15 modern warships, 88 next-generation fighters and ground vehicle modernization.
