Enabled by operational allowances the FAA makes for enhanced vision systems, business jet and avionics manufacturers are rolling out systems across fleets and eyeing combined vision options for head-up displays (HUD) and wearable HUDs.At the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) conference, recently merged Universal Avionics and Elbit Systems featured a ClearVision flight deck suite combining Universal's InSight display system and Elbit's Sky-Lens wearable HUD.SkyLens presents on the user's wraparound visor flight symbology, enhanced vision system (EVS) imagery from visual camera and infrared (IR) sensors; and synthetic vision system (SVS) imagery generated from a runway, terrain and obstacle database. The integration of EVS and SVS is called a combined vision system (CVS). An optical tracker reference unit follows head movements to conform the pilot's line of sight to the outside environment.
