Debate over electric propulsion tends to divide along lines of belief in the potential of batteries to power aircraft. Those who see the glass half full argue that batteries will be ready soon to power aircraft on short urban and regional flights; those who see a half-empty glass say batteries will never replace liquid fuels.But even among battery skeptics there is an appreciation of the benefits electrification could bring to conventional propulsion-in terms of safety, redundancy and performance-through hybridization.
