Iridium CEO Matt Desch is not quite ready to celebrate, but the mood is decidedly upbeat. From the pit of bankruptcy 18 years ago, the McLean, Virginia-based company is close to completing a $3 billion upgrade of its 66-member satellite constellation, with a final launch by SpaceX expected Dec. 30. "A lot of people have been coming up to me, wanting to do high-fives about the success of the company and the new products, but I'm paranoid. I don't think there's ever a time when you can do that, and I certainly don't want to until the network is complete, and our new services are completely online. But it's been an interesting 12 years that I've been here," Desch tells Aviation Week.
