Technology developed by Northrop Grumman to individually and continuously monitor the health of solid rocket motors promises to reduce the cost and extend the service life of munitions. And the company has partnered with 3D-printing specialist Stratasys to use rapid prototyping to demonstrate the technology to potential customers. The integrated munition health management (IMHM) technology combines sensors on the rocket or weapon with internet-of-things (IoT) connectivity, digital-twin modeling and augmented-reality presentation of data to enable real-time monitoring rather than traditional periodic fleet sampling.
