China wants to reach farther, as two anticipated and attention-grabbing 2019 military events are likely to attest. One should be the unveiling of the Avic Xian H-20 bomber, following increasingly frequent public mentions over the past two years. The other will be the commissioning of the navy's second aircraft carrier.Less heralded is volume production of the Avic Shenyang J-31 stealth fighter, which may begin during the year, as deliveries of the bigger and apparently more specialized Avic Chengdu J-20 continue. The first ship in a class of powerful cruisers for protecting aircraft car-riers is likely to be commissioned.
