Viking Air first became associated with the de Havilland Canada name in 1983, when it began making spares for the DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3 Otter. The DHC-6 Twin Otter followed, and in 2006 Viking acquired the type certificates for all out-of-production types, from the DHC-1 Chipmunk to the Dash 7.Along with the former Canadair CL-215/415 waterbomber program acquired in 2016, all of these purchases were from Bombardier. And now Viking Air's parent, Longview Aviation Capital, is looking ahead to its biggest acquisition yet: the $300 million deal to buy the Q400/Dash 8 program from Bombardier.
