T800 engine makers Rolls-Royce and Honeywell are pursuing an aggressive strategy to make the propulsion project viable following cancellation of the Comanche helicopter program and the loss of their primary market. Today, the main focus of the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Co. (LHTEC)―the joint company formed to manufacture and support the T800―is on a range of offshore projects that, taken together, could eventually bring T800 production back to Comanche-era levels. The Super Lynx 300 is the first of these efforts. Six of the twin-engine aircraft―designated the Lynx Mk. 100―were ordered by Malaysia in 1999, and all are powered by the CTS800-4N, a 1,360-shp. commercial version of the T800. Besides the Malaysian aircraft, an additional 16 are on order for Oman, two for Thailand and four for South Africa. All will be CTS800-powered.
