摘要

Brazil has become the first South American nation to field a fleet of surveillance and intelligence-gathering aircraft that, in addition to monitoring illegal activities and environmental damage, is bringing the government's presence to the most remote area of the Amazon. Moreover, these aircraft are helping to foster international cooperation with Peru, Colombia and Bolivia in a region where border-area lawlessness has, in some cases, reached corporate proportions. A successful joint mission between Peru and Brazil last year is expected to be the template for future multinational operations.
