The nation's top aerospace com-panies are lining up for major competitions over who will integrate the command and control systems for the increasingly important markets of electronic surveillance and attack. At the same time, the winner or winners—competitors often team after a selection—will be key players in reconstructing the U.S. Air Force's electronic warfare community that disappeared during the last decade after retirement of the EF-111s and F-4G Wild Weasels. The service is now trying to reconstitute its expertise and decide how to put it together in a centralized system that can respond to a fast-changing battlefield, say industry and service officials.
