摘要

It'll be weeks or months before the aerospace industry knows whether the U.S. and European Union are headed for an all-out World Trade Organization fight over their respective support for Boeing and Airbus. But the first steps were taken after the U.S. initiated WTO action in a bid to squash Airbus' emerging A350 in its infancy. Unhappy with the pace of progress in talks during the past few months, U.S. Trade Representative Robert B. Zoel-lick last week filed a WTO dispute settlement case. In parallel, the U.S. terminated its 1992 agreement with the EU on commercial aircraft subsidies. "We urged the EU to agree that neither of us should provide new subsidies to aircraft manufacturers," Zoellick says. "But the EU and Airbus appear to want to buy more time for more subsidies for more planes."
