Although no aircraft using Reagan Washington National Airport were hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001, the events of that day prompted U.S. security officials to close the airport indefinitely to business jets and turboprops. Leaders of the business flying community have been unable to determine what agency or federal officials want Reagan to remain dosed to corporate/general aviation operations. And some of them wonder why promises made after Sept. 11 to reopen the airport to private aircraft have evaporated. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is one organization that would like to welcome back business aviation.
