摘要

Delta Air Lines is making con-siderable headway—more than $2 billion worth, if all goes well—toward surviving the com-ing winter and reshaping itself without filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. But it's depending increasingly on short-term, stopgap measures to maintain enough cash. Delta's pilots will continue voting through Nov. 11 on a five-year agreement providing $1 billion per year in pay, benefit and work-rule concessions negotiated by their leadership (AW&ST Nov. 1, p. 26). With ratification, the deal would take its place in a financial house of cards—multiple money-raising and cost-avoiding measures that reinforce and depend on each other in the battle to restructure the company.
