Depressed aircraft build rates and setbacks in technology areas once targeted for growth mean it will be years before the avionics market begins to recover from its current depressed state. With recovery in the commercial transport arena at least several years away, avionics manufacturers had hoped the U.S. government would move quickly to implement new safety standards that would help boost sales of their products in selected areas. Unfortunately, this has not occurred.
