Kaiser Electronics has delivered what it believes is the first helmet-mounted display in manufacturing development that uses a solid-state flat panel image source instead of a cathode ray tube to drive the optics. The result is a lighter, more compact system that requires less power. The Helmet Integrated Display Sighting System (HIDSS) for the Army's RAH-66 Comanche helicopter is being delivered to the Sikorsky and Boeing Comanche team. The units are being used in system integration laboratories and could be flown on the No. 2 Comanche around April, said Terry Harper, Kaiser Electronics Comanche program manager.
