In a desperate struggle for survival, Air Lib executives plan to appeal a French court's decision to force the independent carrier into bankruptcy. However, there's almost no chance that an 1 1th-hour reprieve will be granted to a company that never achieved profitability and accumulated massive losses. The collapse of Air Lib spotlights the need to revamp the nation's air transportation plan, as well as underlining Air France's historic quest for predominance and the country's unrealistic airport policy. Moreover, Air Lib's 15-year-long effort to devise a viable business strategy and, more recently, multiple attempts to find new investors, are now leaving an ocean of debt in their wake.
