Boeing's most visible organizational moves since the start of the 737 MAX crisis have focused on revamping how safety issues are managed internally. But they also suggest the company detects an increase in flight safety risk linked to commercial aircraft design and training-a trend it wants to help reverse.The company on Sept. 25 unveiled its most substantive publicly announced organizational changes since the mid-March 737 MAX grounding. The changes, most delivered as recommendations to senior leadership, stem from a five-month internal committee's look at product development and support. The committee also analyzed several corporate crises to see how organizations learned from them, says Edmund Giambastiani, the Boeing board member and former U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff vice chairman who led the probe. "We were given extensive authorization to look at essentially anything we wanted to, outside and inside the company," he tells Aviation Week.
