Every major form of transportation has its own unique purpose and value. Very few people would elect to set sail from the U.S. to China when you can hop on an airplane, just as most people in New York choose to take the subway instead of driving a car.But when it comes to comparing the emerging electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) vehicles to a traditional rotorcraft, many people in the aerospace industry seem to have forgotten the lesson above. The wave of eVTOLs on our doorstep will serve a far different purpose than the rotorcraft of today. And that different purpose- based more on public transportation and cargo delivery-is creating a market that many are underestimating.EVTOL is a brand-new market with cutting-edge technologies and unique players. Many companies in the space will not succeed (just ask the original 220 U.S. automakers), but enough eVTOL makers will thrive to launch this new market faster than any other in the history of aviation.
