Struggling with challenges in its rail transportation business, Bombardier has announced the latest step in its plan to exit the commercial aircraft market and focus its aerospace activities on business aviation. The Canadian manufacturer is to divest its aerostructures businesses in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Morocco and form an integrated Bombardier Aviation unit. This will retain aerostructures operations in Montreal, Mexico and Texas that Bombardier considers core to its business-jet production. The new unit combines Bombardier Business Aircraft with what remains of the company's Commercial Aircraft and Aerostructures & Engineering Services businesses after transfer of the C Series program to Airbus and sale of the Q400 regional turboprop program to Canada's Longview Aviation Capital.
