Lasting barely a minute, Loganair's flight between Westray and Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands off northern Scotland is one of the shortest in the world. It could also be one of the first to be electrified as short island-hopping flights emerge as a likely launch market for electric-powered commercial aircraft.The UK's Cranfield Aerospace Solutions (CAeS) has launched Project Fresson, a government-backed £18 million ($22 million) initiative to convert the nine-passenger Britten-Norman Islander-the aircraft used by Loganair for those short interisland hops-to hybrid-electric propulsion.
