As the U.S. Army strives to accelerate the replacement of Boeing Apache helicopters pressed into the armed scout role, Bell has unveiled its entry in the competition to develop the service's next reconnaissance/attack rotorcraft.In April, the Army awarded five Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreements for the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) Competitive Prototype program, two months ahead of schedule. An AVX Aircraft/ L3Harris Technologies team, Bell, Boeing, Karem Aircraft teamed with Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin company Sikorsky all received preliminary design contracts. FARA, also known as Capability Set 1, isa subset of the Pentagon's larger Future Vertical Lift initiative.
