United Aircraft Corp. subsidiary Irkut rolled out the first MC-21 prototype powered by Russian PD-14 turbofans in Irkutsk, Siberia, on Nov. 6. Operators worldwide are waiting for their regulators to act after the FAA on Nov. 18 rescinded its ban on Boeing 737 MAX operations, releasing an airworthiness directive codifying steps U.S. airlines must follow to return their MAXs to service (page 16). Aireon has signed an agreement allowing the FAA access to its space-based aircraft surveillance data to evaluate different air traffic control applications. Korean Air is to buy rival Asiana for 1.8 trillion won ($1.6 billion). State-owned Korea Development Bank is investing 800 billion won to support the deal.
