Aermacchi has rolled out the ini-tial prototype of its M-346 ad-vanced jet trainer, as engineers prepare the Italian aircraft for its flight test program. More than 600 staff are now at work on the effort―320 from within the company, plus 300 contract engineers and technicians. Assembly of two more prototypes is underway (AW&ST Sept. 16, 2002, p. 68).
