With the market flooded with used business aircraft and the general economy still weak, this would seem to be an especially risky climate in which to launch a new jet program. But that's exactly what Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd. is doing in a strategic alliance with a newly formed company, Avocet Aircraft LLC, headquartered in Westport, Conn. Their goal is to formally introduce the Avocet ProJet―a twin turbofan, entry-level aircraft―at the National Business Aviation Assn.'s (NBAA) annual trade show in Orlando, Fla., scheduled for Oct. 7-9. They expect to complete the final design within the next three months. The 4-6-place, two-pilot jet would cost just under $2 million (completed)―the developers hope.
