In a declaration of independence from United Airlines, and Mesa Air Group's hostile takeover attempts, Atlantic Coast Airways last week formally announced its transformation into a low-fare carrier and inked an agreement with Airbus for 25 A320-series aircraft that would give the new entity transcontinental scope. The move highlights a crisscross mi- gratory pattern emerging among airlines―coast-to-coast low-fare carrier JetBlue Airways recently purchased regional jets to operate point-to-point services. Air-Tran, which now operates Boeing 717s, next year will take delivery of new Boeing 737-700s. Now, regional airline ACA is transitioning to low-fare, coast-to-coast operations.
