Despite a decision to suspend further investment in the UltraFan geared-turbofan program after completion of the demonstrator phase, Rolls-Royce says it remains committed to the long-term promise of the concept for its future product line. The move comes as the engine-maker continues to cut costs in the face of the COVID-19-related impact on its civil aerospace business, including plans to axe 9,000 jobs by the end of 2022 and freeze further development of the new turbofan program until market prospects begin to brighten.
