Russia is preparing to renew space tourism activities by offering dedicated commercial missions to the International Space Station aboard Soyuz rockets, including the world’s first opportunity for a private citizen to conduct a spacewalk. The move by Russia to launch tourists to space comes as two companies in the U.S. are working with SpaceX to charter two missions, each carrying four civilians to space. In the next three years, Russian launch vehicles are expected to carry eight space tourists—the same number that Russia sent to space in 2001-09. The first short- duration flight, with two tourists to the International Space Station (ISS), is planned for December 2021.
