Almost two years after Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX, crashed shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa, the airline has decided it will proceed with its big MAX order. The accident on March 10, 2019, took 157 lives and, along with a similar crash on Oct. 29, 2018, of a Lion Air MAX, led to the global grounding of the type. Ethiopian left open whether it would ever return the MAX to service. But at a CAPA Live virtual conference in February, CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said the company has decided to “continue with the order,” even though a financial settlement with Boeing has yet to be reached.
