摘要

A pending engine-maintenance policies agreement between Rolls-Royce and the world's top airline association will be lauded by both the manufacturer and its customers, who will in theory gain more choice in how they spend their maintenance dollars. Yet triggering real-world changes in how operators maintain their equipment and how much new business third-party suppliers gain is likely to prove difficult. Rolls and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are finalizing an agreement that clarifies the manufacturer's positions on use of third-party alternatives-including spare parts and repairs the UK-based manufacturer did not develop. The policies are expected to spell out the ramifications such cost-saving moves have for airlines and maintenance providers.
