After eight demonstration flights on Mars, NASA's Ingenuity helicopter conducted a sideline science sortie for the Perseverance rover team, overflying a nontravers-able, sand-filled region that may contain rocks from the floor of an ancient lake that once filled Jezero Crater.The region, known as Seitah-a Na-vajo word for "amongst the sands"- was not initially on the Perseverance team's list of potential sites to collect samples for return to Earth. The primary goal of the mission is to cache rock and soil samples that may harbor signs of ancient life.Jezero Crater was selected as the rover's hunting ground because of a well-preserved river delta-the suspected sedimentary remains of water that once flowed into the crater lake.
