Rare is the NASA mission whose name is not an acronym. Rarer still is a deep-space mission with a multidestination itinerary. But what makes NASA's recently launched Lucy mission unique is where the robotic explorer is headed and how it will get there. The spacecraft, built by Lockheed Martin, is designed to answer fundamental questions about how the Solar System came to exist in its present configuration, with four rocky planets circling relatively close to the Sun and four gas giants relegated to the backyard.
