摘要

Boeing airplanes with Crane Hydro-Aire fuel pumps have been hit with another emergency airworthiness directive that requires increasing unusable fuel to keep the pumps submerged away from fuel vapors. The new FAA airworthiness directive, AD 2002-24-51, issued on Nov. 23, was prompted by evidence of frictional overheating in 2-3 pumps removed from 747s. The prior emergency directives, AD 2002-18-52 and AD 2002-19-52, were issued in August-September after misplaced electrical wires and arcing were discovered in the same model pumps (AW&ST Oct. 14, p. 47). Both new and prior ADs call for the same carriage of extra fuel to submerge the pumps.
