The global helicopter business is active, but growth is relatively flat and forecast to remain that way this year as operators struggle to eke out marginal improvements in profitability and aircraft utilization. Fleet replacement or expansion demand for rotary-wing aircraft is focused chiefly on single-engine models, but operation of twin-engine, turbine-powered helicopters is rising slightly in the wake of sales to corporate and offshore oil operators in the U.S., Europe and to a lesser degree, Asia and the Pacific Rim. Hovering over the entire industry, however, is a growing concern about the U.S. economy and the possibility of a recession this year. Most industry officials agree that if the economy stumbles, the ramifications of that event will quickly ripple through all segments of the business.
