Current and former Pentagon and defense industry officials—dedaring the U.S. at a critical juncture in its military posture—will urge Congress and the Bush Administration to make acquisition reform and defense modernization one of their top priorities. Calling the current political environment "prime time" for a fresh approach to how issues are looked at and addressed, Darlene Druyun, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition and management, issued a blunt challenge to several hundred people attending the recent Defense Reform 2001 conference organized by the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics.
