Northrop Grumman has been selected to continue development of an airborne system—involving 2-4 aircraft—that can hit moving targets with low-cost bombs from beyond the range of many of today's anti-aircraft . missiles, according to government officials. Raytheon was eliminated from the program after weapons were launched by both competitors at truck-mounted targets moving at 20 mph. Both teams met test specifications by striking within less than 10 meters of their targets, and neither competitor will know exactly how the test results were weighed until after a debrief later in the month.
