Rolls-Royce has upped its forecast for global engine demand, projecting a market for more than 48,100 new engines, including spares, over the next 20 years with an overall value of $337 billion. The latest forecast represents an increase from the manufacturer's previous projections two years ago for 1998-2017. At that time, Rolls-Royce forecast a demand for 43,500 engines with a market value of $280 billion. It also shows a drop in expected demand for large aircraft with more than 400 seats, a category that encompasses both Boeing's 747 family, including proposed stretch versions, and Airbus Industrie's planned A3XX.
