New airline business models and new aircraft technology are likely to force Europe's main-tenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry to retool its strategies and to invest in new skills and product offerings. That's the message that came across loud and clear at Aviation Week's MRO Europe 2006 in Amsterdam. "It will be a big challenge for MROs to adapt," says Jason Bitter, chief operating officer of Slovak low-fare airline SkyEurope. The move to new models in his view is particularly difficult for providers that are part of a major airline, as it is "low-cost carriers that are forcing innovation."
