Britain will carry out fast-jet trials simulating the control of unmanned combat air vehicles from a single-seat combat aircraft within the next few months. The trials are part of an ongoing Defense Ministry-funded program being carried out by Qinetiq for development of command-and-control systems for unmanned combat/reconnaissance air vehicles (UCAV/URAVs). The defense technology company claims to have scored a recent first with the flight demonstration of the control and autonomous organization of UAVs. This trial was built around its BAC 1-11, fitted out to operate as a surrogate UAV.
