The Airbus consortium's execu-tive board last week approved the A318s go-ahead with more than 100 firm orders and commitments. Airbus Industrie is scheduled to deliver the first A318 short-haul twin-jet during the fourth quarter of 2002. Air France signed a firm order for 15 A318s and optioned 10 additional aircraft to replace Boeing 737-500s. Egyptair ordered three aircraft slated to succeed 737-200s. Last year, the International Lease Finance Corp. had signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus to acquire 30 A318s once the program was formally launched, and Trans World Airlines announced last December it would acquire 50 A318s as well as 25 additional A320-family twinjets.
