摘要

Boeing's post-merger rededication to hard-nosed business practices has resulted in a projected layoff of 7,000 workers at the company's St. Louis facility by the summer of 2001. The layoffs will follow earlier management cuts of up to 50% in some merged business units. The new layoffs will result largely from a break in new production in the F-15 and F/A-18C/D lines and the consolidation of organizations and support groups within the expanded company. Following the decision of the Greek government not to buy the F-15, the company announced they would lay off 300-400 workers per month through August. Unless Israel decides to buy additional F-15s, the line will stop in January. The F/A-18 line will be pared by 800-900 workers but continue to run for a year. Another 1,000 slots will be cut through the consolidations.
