In the weird world of Pentagon budget planning, the Army is considering both killing and accelerating the next-generation Comanche helicopter program. Army officials—under the urging of new chief of staff, Gen. Eric Shinseki—are analyzing the Boeing Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche scout/attack helicopter program as a prelude to recommending that it either be dropped altogether or receive additional funding for quicker fielding. Either option is considered a possible outcome from the Army budget assessment, which should be completed in January.
